On 7th September 1985, in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India, Dr. Charudutt Apte and Dr. Jayashree Apte, welcomed their daughter Radhika Apte into this world. Both of her parents were studying and working as doctors at the Christian Medical College & Hospital, Vellore. Afterward, he father became a neurosurgeon and chairman of Sahyadri Hospital, in Pune, and her mother became an anesthesiologist. Apte has a younger brother, Dr. Ketan Apte, who is a business head at Sahyadri Hospitals. In Pune, Apte studied initially in a regular school, but then she and her four friends who lived in the same building were homeschooled. She said that homeschooling was a liberating experience for her. During her childhood, Apte trained Kathak, which is one of eight major forms of Indian classical dance. Karhak exponent Rohini Bhate trained her for eight years. She is an Economics and Mathematics graduate from Fergusson College, Pune. During her involvement in theater in Pune, she dreamed of moving to Mumbai to join films.

Her overnight decision of going to London for a year resulted in her studies of contemporary dance at London’s Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

In 2005, Radhika Apte made her acting debut in the Hindi industry with Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi! Her role in Anahita Oberoi’s play Bombay Black made actor Rahul Bose suggest her name to director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury. The director cast her in his Bengali film Antaheen. Apte’s first appearance in Indian release was in 2009, with Gho Mala Asla Hava. The following year, she made appearances in thrillers The Waiting Room, and Rakta Charitra. The first four 2014 releases of Apte were Postcard, Pendulum, Legend, and Vetri Selvan, in four different languages: Marathi, Bengali, Telugu, and Tamil. Another film in Marathi in which he starred, called Lai Bhaari, was a commercial success, and it became the highest-grossing Marathi movie of all time. Apte’s wider recognition came in 2015, for her roles in six feature films released in the first eight months. So far, she made appearances in numerous movies and television series. She is actively involved with theatre and said that she preferred to work in experimental theatre.
